Following our recent work in Nevada, VCS Engineering has officially completed projects in all 50 U.S. states—spanning climates, coasts, and complex conditions. This milestone reflects not just geographic reach, but our ability to adapt corrosion and durability solutions to a wide variety of infrastructure types and environmental challenges.

Here’s a look at just a few of the diverse U.S. projects that brought us here:

City of St. Petersburg Municipal Pier (Florida)

Climate/Terrain: Humid, coastal environment with high chloride exposure

Problem: Saltwater threatened the longevity of reinforced concrete in a heavily used public pier. VCS was brought in to assess whether the inverted‑pyramid pier (built in 1973) could be rehabilitated to support a 75-year life extension.

Solution: Conducted comprehensive corrosion and durability testing, followed by cathodic protection design to mitigate corrosion and preserve structural integrity, supporting the 75-year life extension goal.

Services Applied:

  • Cathodic Protection Design
  • Corrosion Potential Mapping
  • Corrosion Potential Testing
  • Concrete Resistivity
  • Carbonation Depth
  • Chloride Concentration
  • Compressive Strength

Dry Fork Coal Silo (Wyoming)

Climate/Terrain: Arid, high-plains environment with temperature extremes

Problem: A large concrete spall (approx. 3 ft in diameter at 135 ft elevation) occurred on a coal silo. VCS concluded the root cause was most likely a lightning strike, where an electrically isolated jacking bar dissipated intense energy, vaporizing moisture in the concrete and causing instant spalling. Additional map cracking and early-age drying shrinkage were also noted.

Solution: VCS evaluated the extent of damage and deterioration mechanisms, helping the owner understand root cause, assess long-term durability concerns, and plan targeted rehabilitation. The silo was determined to be structurally sound, with localized repair recommended.

Services Applied:

  • Concrete Resistivity
  • Corrosion Potential Mapping
  • Carbonation Depth
  • Chloride Concentration
  • Compressive Strength
  • Corrosion Potential Testing

Island Way Bridge Cathodic Protection Jackets (California)

Climate/Terrain: Coastal marine environment with tidal exposure and saltwater corrosion

Problem: Reinforcing steel corrosion in the tidal and splash zones had caused damage to the concrete bridge piers, threatening the structures long‑term durability.

Solution: VCS designed a custom galvanic cathodic protection jacket system to repair existing damage and provide a 25-year service life extension for the bridge’s piers.

Services Applied:

  • Cathodic Protection Design
  • Contractor Training and Quality Control

With experience in every U.S. state, VCS continues to deliver corrosion and durability solutions that respond to local environments and project demands. Whether facing saltwater, heat, or freeze-thaw cycles, we help infrastructure stay strong where it matters most!

As a global company, we’re proud of this milestone—and remain focused on expanding our corrosion mitigation expertise across the regions we serve, supporting infrastructure where it's needed most.
